New Year's Eve is only a week away now.

Hundreds of people set goals for the coming year on New Year's Eve. We would like you to set some goals that are about the environment. For instance cut down on how much meat you eat or use less plastic. You can chose the easy, the normal or the hard challenge.

Easy Challenge

For the easy challenge you only need to set one environmental goal.

Normal Challenge

To complete the normal challenge you will need to set three environmental goals.

Hard Challenge

This one is for people who are willing to give things up for the environment. To do the hard challenge you must set five environmental goals.

Completion Date

31.12. (New Year's Eve) You have one week.

Tips

Don't set goals that you know you won't be able to complete. Just start off low and next year you can try something harder.

For people who read this post after New Year's Eve, don't worry. You can set your goals next year or maybe on your birthday. Your birthday is the beginning of your year. If you are a student or a teacher or another job that uses the school calendar, you can always set some goals for the school year.

We are already looking forward to hear about your goal ideas. If we don't send another post before 1st January, then HAPPY NEW YEAR🥳.

I did the hard challenge.

1. Only eat meat once a week.
2. Don't have the heaters on higher than 3 overnight.
3. Don't buy more than five new books this year (presents don't count).
4. Only use the car up to five times a month.
5. Raise awareness for the planet.

The limits of the Earth - the planetary boundary model

Hi everyone, So today we're talking about a model that was introduced in 2009 and has offered a new perspective to thinking about environmental issues. The planetary boundary model has 9 boundaries, each has a safe zone. Once the safe zone is exceeded, the stable conditions on our planet are considered at risk, and there can be severe and possibly irreversible changes. We'll start with the basics: The ozone layer is part of the stratosphere, which is the second layer of the Earth's atmosphere, between 10 and 50 km above the Earth's surface and made up of protective gases. El Niño & La Niña - what are they and what effects do they have?

Hello everyone, You've probably heard of El Niño and La Niña before. Especially El Niño has been discussed a lot recently in the media. El Niño and La Niña are part of a climate pattern found in the Pacific Ocean that occurs roughly every two to seven years. However there is no real regularity or predictability further into the future. They affect global weather patterns and economies. So first of all, let's cover what is actually happening here. In normal circumstances trade winds blow across the Pacific from South America to Asia. This pushes warm water from South America to Asia meaning that the ocean is a lot cooler off the west coast of the Americas compared to the east coast of Asia. The cold water off the coast of the Americas comes from the ocean's depths and is filled with nutrients. During El Niño those driving trade winds become weaker or even stop entirely. Hello, Today, we're talking about the rarest marine mammal. The vaquita is a member of the porpoise family that lives only in the northernmost part of the Gulf of California which is the smallest range of any marine mammal. Vaquita are easily distinguishable, with small bodies tall triangular dorsal fins and dark patches around each eye and on their lips. They are dark grey with paler, sometimes even white undersides. The females generally have larger heads, wider flippers and are longer than the males. Vaquita prefer to stay with 25 km of the shoreline and in waters of less than 150m depth, as these contain more prey. They eat a wide variety of different fish species especially floor dwelling ones.
